We embraced/ we couldn’t see/ the future dangling in front us/ the past now too far to see/ But we didn’t look we didn’t care/ There was something left between us then/ but now I feel it’s just not quite there/ and you’re oh oh uh oh oh, oh oh oh uh oh oh.*

This proposed large-scale theatre performance intends to work with approx 6 children, 6 young performers (recent graduates) and a small brass band (5 instruments). It constitutes a tender, light, funny and sad non-narrative musical unfolding of choreographies, assemblages, juxtapositions, conversations, rhythms, feels, moods, atmospheres and spatial relationships contemplating youth and the passage of a life.
For this project I am interested to construct a space in which for the most part the performers inhabit the theatre space through visual and rhythmical choreographies of ‘real’ or task based actions (non-representative actions like dancing, playing games, building/making etc.) as well as actions that constitute micro-narratives, accompanied and framed by the music and presence of a brass band.
Layered on top of this reality will be the given reality of the performers age difference, which will play a part in whatever actions they undertake on stage and will inform an audience’s contemplative and emotional response.
The proposed project is currently in its planning phase for realisation in the summer of 2010. We are now actively seeking interested parties for the co-commissioning and booking of the work. Please contact for further information.
