Swen has been leading workshops and practical performance modules in a variety of settings stretching from Secondary Schools to HND, Degree and MA courses in Higher Education.
He is a part time lecturer in Contemporary Performance at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford, as well as a visiting lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Leeds.
His practical and theoretical teaching is concerned with a wide variety of elements of Devised Theatre, Live Art and Site Specific performance that are relevant for performers, directors and makers.
Swen’s specific experience and practical research interest lies in ensemble practice, movement based performance and composition, methodologies of devising, creative responses to a variety of source materials, structured improvisations and task based exercises, non-representational modes of performance (doing over acting), rhythmical structures, the layering and juxtapositions of text, image and music, strategies for collaboration, active listening to sites, objects and others, task based actions, installation work and scenographic compositions, splendour, pleasure and commitment in non-representative modes of performing, musicality of text and time-space, fragmented narratives, generating surplus values of enjoyment and doing the dance.
Practical workshops and modules, as well as artist talks and lectures are highly adoptable to a multiplicity of academic and non-academic contexts.
